Darling DIY: Festive Statement Clutch

When you walk into a party, you want to catch people's attention, right? You definitely will with this VERY sparkly statement clutch! It's a double win: it looks great and it's so easy...oh wait, and it cost us a grand total of $2! YES, that's right, $2! You won't believe what it is: dollar store tinsel wrapped and super glued to a (not to cute) dollar store wallet! It's fab statement piece that you want whip out when you go out somewhere fancy and NO ONE will know how much it was! It'd go great with a little black dress and a cute cocktail ring!

*We don't think the dollar store sell tinsel anymore, but we're sure you can dig around in your Christmas box and you'll find some!

Darling DIY: Grippy Socks

We CANNOT believe we didn't think of this before! All you need to make this grippy socks is a pair of socks and some puffy paint (found at any craft store)! When paint dries, it makes an amazing grip on the bottom of the socks so you don't slip! Brilliant! This would be a great present for kids- but even adults, too!

This Christmas we decided to do presents on a budget! Each person got $7 to spend on the other 3 members of the family. Because of this, we really got our creative juices flowing. You'll see the amazing presents that we made coming up in the next few weeks. These socks were an Anika to Sonali  present! We LOVE the show Arrested Development (and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who wants to laugh until they fall over), so I decided to make Sonali grippy socks featuring the logo of the Bluth family's business, The Bluth Company. She got a real kick out of them.

~The Bluth Family will keeps the laughs coming! And will make you SOOOO glad that they aren't your family! Full of crazy characters that are so unlikable, you'll end up loving them!~

Darling DIY: Cardboard and Thread bracelet

This is such a quick and easy bracelet DIY! It adds a fun pop of color to your look and has a cool bohemian feel. All  you need is some embroidery tread, strips of cardboard cut to the circumference of your wrist, and some glue. You just have to spread some glue on both sides of the strip and then wrap the thread around- just cut and start again with a new color when you want. It's a great alternative to a friendship bracelet for your BFF, too! We can't wait to try some more color combos!

Darling DIY: Exploding Card!

After years and years and YEARS of buying, albeit very cute and sentimental, not so personal cards from Hallmark, we're so glad we found this amazing tutorial for an amazing new "card".  I made one for Sonali's birthday, and it turned out great! It will definitely bring a wonderful smile (and maybe even some happy-tears) to that special someone of yours! When you follow the directions of the tutorial, it's SO easy!

Darling DIY: Sweater Refashion

As amateur seamstresses, we always take the opportunity to try minimal sewing projects! We're in love with both elbow patches and peter pan collars, so we decided to add both to a simple sweater we got on sale. We also added some little vintage buttons. Can't wait to try this on some more!

Dishy Delights: Easy Avocado Sandwiches Two Ways

A few weeks ago, our mom came home exclaiming, "I bought 10 avocados for 10 dollars!". We were pretty excited given our new-found love of all things avocado. But about 6 or 7 avocados and multiple bowls of guacamole and chips later, we decided we needed to change up our recipes! So we whipped up these two quick and easy sandwiches!

Guacamole Grilled Cheese
This is a zesty take on the good ol' grilled cheese sandwich! This is perfect for a fun dinner with family and friends. Pair with loud music and laughs and you have a fiesta!! We whipped up some guacamole (our cheating version) and spread it inside the sandwich. It's such a flavorful sandwich!

Ingredients: Bread (we always have some whole wheat or multigrain on hand), cheese slices, butter, 2 avocados, and salsa.

1) 10 second guac!: Peel and mash the avocados (our mom's genius idea was to use a potato masher and we had the avocados mashed in a few seconds) and blend in your favorite salsa until it's spicy enough for you. THAT'S IT!
***This is our go to when we have guests coming over and don't have much time. They won't be able to tell the difference!

2) Spread butter on the bread slices (a thin layer on both sides)

3) Add cheese and a few spoonfuls of the guac.

4) Heat on your grill (or however you make your grilled cheese. We use our trusty mini George Foreman  grill!) and enjoy!

Avocado, Spinach, and Cucumber Tea Sandwiches
This is a completely different option for your yummy sandwich. This twist on the traditional cucumber tea sandwich adds a few extra veggies for an additional texture and taste. This is perfect for an afternoon tea party for the girls.

Ingredients: Bread, cream cheese, ranch dip mix, avocado, spinach, and cucumber

1) Wash and cut your veggies into thing slices

2) Mix your spread: All you need is a few tablespoons of cream cheese, and then mix in about a teaspoon of the ranch mix. Blend thoroughly.

3) Cut the crust of your bread (for a fancy touch) and spread the cream cheese on both slides.

4) Add the veggies and cut into cute little quarters.

Put on your favorite girly dress and sip some hot tea! :-)

Darling DIY: Lotion Bars

We didn't  know these were SO easy to make! They're perfect for pampering yourself or to give as a cute gift. You can make them in any shape and with whatever scent you like. All you need is 3 simple ingredients and a little bit of time.

Supplies: Coconut oil, beeswax, Shea butter, and essential oil (optional)

Steps

1) Measure out a 1:1:1 ratio of the 3 ingredients (you may want to add in a little extra beeswax since it is what will help the bar retain it's shape)

*Grating the beeswax can be a little time consuming, but it will melt MUCH faster.
* You can also use CRISCO instead of the Shea butter- it works just the same!

2) Melt together in a double boiler until fully liquid and mixed together. Here is when you can add your favorite essential oil (there should be a guide to how many drops you need to add depending on the volume of your mixture).

3) Pour into your mold (we used cupcake liners inside a muffin tin as well as a silicone ice cube mold).

4) Freeze for about 10 minutes and VOILA!

The heat of your hand warms the bar so you get the perfect amount of lotion onto your hands each time. These are so much fun!

Happy 2013!

Happy New Year, Darlings! We just wanted to wish all of our readers the happiest of memories in 2013!

We also wanted to say that we are officially back from our hiatus from Darling Disposition. We have a lot of exciting new posts coming up, including painted holiday ornaments, homemade (and healthy) pizza and so many fabulous DIY Christmas presents (that can be given year round)- and of course, DD's very on Sonali's 19th birthday which happened in December!

We hope you'll visit us often in the next couple of weeks!

Stay darling,
Sonali & Anika
