DIY Home: Quote Frames for only $1

We are in a massive, but fun, redecoration in our home! Aside from buying some fabulous new furniture (we have a really exciting bar cart coming up!), we want to fill our home with a lot of fun and personal touches.

We're sure you know by now that we love quotes! Quotes on clothes, quotes on mugs, quotes of pillows! Words are so powerful and we love being reminded of our favorite quotes in little ways as we go about our day. This is a really easy DIY that adds a beautiful touch to any room or wall and which will bring a smile to your face whenever you see it. And the best part? It only costs $1!

Supplies:
8 x 10'' picture frames (ours were from the dollar store!)
White acrylic paint (and whatever other colors you want your frames to be)
Foam brushes
Ribbon
Hot glue gun and sticks
Your favorite quote and a printer

Steps:
1. Take the back cardboard and glass out of the frame
2. Paint the frame with two coats of white paint (make sure you let it dry between coats)
3. Paint the frame with 1 or 2 coats of the color you want
4. While the paint is drying, type up and print your quote(s).
5. Slide the quote into the frame and trim the edges
6. Glue the ribbon in a loop on the top of your frame
7. Display and enjoy!

DIY Eats: Barley Salad

Hi, everyone!
It's now almost two months into the new year and we at DD are continuing with our healthy eating! Because we've found so many delicious and nutritious recipes, we don't even miss meals slathered in butter and cheese. We know, we're shocked, too!

Today we want to share a new recipe we found a couple of days ago that turned out fabulous! It's a super quick and easy barley "salad" that you can eat hot or cold. It makes a fantastic light lunch and the flavors will leave you satisfied.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup uncooked barley (We used the 10-minute quick cooking barley from Trader Joe's)
1/2 cup sweet corn
1 bunch of kale
1/2 onion
1 tsp olive oil
1/4 tsp garlic powder (or fresh garlic)
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup low fat feta crumbles
Lemon

Directions
1. Fill a large put with water and set to boil; once it is boiling, add barley.
After about 5 minutes, add in corn.
2. In another pan, heat oil; once it is hot, sautee onions until translucent.
3. Add kale and cook for about 5 minutes.
4. Drain barley and corn, once they are cooked.
5. Mix together and add the spices.
6. Add in feta crumbles
7. Squeeze lemon to taste
8. ENJOY!

Let us know how you like it!
