Dishy Delights: Chocolate Gems

We saw this idea on line and thought it was absolutely perfect for our mom for Mother's Day! She is as fabulous as royalty so we thought that dark chocolate gems were very fitting. We simply used a gem-shaped candy mold to make the chocolate gems and then brushed on luster dust (an awesome product!), which is edible glitter (we got ours from amazon.com). Even better than the finished product was our mom's reaction! She didn't even realize that they were edible. This is a perfect gift for literally anyone! They taste delicious and look fabulous!

Darling DIY: Color Block Shoes

We could not believe we didn't think about this before! We are infatuated with the new trend of bright color-block heels but we are always so scared of the sky-high stiletto heels. We found some old black heels deep within our closet and decided to give them a trendy, fun makeover! All you need is a pair of shoes (any color!), various acrylic paints, and a couple of brushes. The best part of this DIY is that the sky is the limit- you can make them any color and any design! A little tip for dark shoes: paint them with 2 coats of white acrylic first so your color is on nice and bright!

Dishy Delights: Zucchini Sticks and Strawberry-Mango Smoothie

This is an unbelievably quick, easy, and yummy afternoon snack! We and our mom got a little hungry this afternoon and looked through our fridge to see what we could find. Zucchini and strawberries! We made breaded zucchini sticks (which is now a go-to snack for us) and a quick smoothie. There were filling and delicious, but best of all, our snack was so healthy! Our dad came home early so we even fixed him a little plate and he was very pleasantly surprised at how much he liked it! Thanks, dad!

Here are quick recipes (its so easy, no pictures are even needed).

Zucchini sticks:
ngredients: 2 zucchini, milk, grated parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, and garlic powder. 1. Cut 2 zucchini into small sticks. 2. Prepare the breading mixture by mixing about 1 cup of bread crumbs, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, and about 2 tbsp of parmesan in one bowl and pour about 1/2 cup of milk in another bowl. 3. Dip each stick into the milk and then in the breading mixture until coated. 4. Place on a baking sheet and bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes. 5. Serve with a side of dressing or marinara sauce and ENJOY!

Stawberry-Mango smoothie:

Ingredients: Strawberries, mango, vanilla yogurt, ice cubes. 1. Cut the tops off of about 2 cups of strawberries. 2. Blend together the strawberries, 1 cut mango, 3 heaping Tbsp of yogurt, about 1/2 cup of ice cubs and a little bit of water. 3. Top it off with some whipped cream!

*Extra healthy: We used both fat-free milk and fat-free yogurt and they both turned out great!! This also makes the snack very very very low fat! :-)

Darling DIY: Sherlock Pillow

You will soon start noticing the recurring themes on our blog! Another Sherlock-inspired DIY, we made this SUPER easy graphic pillow out of an old pillowcase, some pillow stuffing and an iron-on transfer sheet. We found this fabulous cartoon image of Sherlock and Watson online and decided to turn it into a pillow. We put on of our favorite quotes from the show on the back, too. This DIY took about 20 minutes to make and always brings a smile to our face when we see it during the day.

Dazzling Destination: Cape May, New Jersey

As a special treat to celebrate the end of the school year and to kick off our fabulous summer, our parents took us on a mini-vacation to Cape May, NJ- about 2 hours from our house. We were not expecting such a calm and peaceful place! We spent hours just lounging on the beach, which was so quiet that we all fell asleep! Though the water was still a little chilly, it made for a fun game of water-splashing tag. :-) We stayed at a fun little hotel right on the beach, but the town is FILLED with beautiful and charming little houses which are turned into Inns and B&Bs. We are definitely making this s family tradition!
